Erased, Altered, Unavailable: Finding Reliable U.S. Government Information for Social Science Research

Erased, Altered, Unavailable: Finding Reliable U.S. Government Information for Social Science Research Online

U.S. government information has undergone a significant transformation, shifting from predominantly print-based materials to digital formats. This transition has introduced challenges related to the stability and accessibility of online government information, which is increasingly influenced by the priorities and agendas of the executive branch, which governs key agencies such as the Department of Education. As digital government information becomes more vulnerable to removal or alteration, a critical question emerges: how can researchers continue to access essential government data relevant to the social and behavioral sciences?
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to identify and utilize U.S. government information resources available through the USC Libraries. Additionally, participants will gain an understanding of national data preservation initiatives and explore publicly accessible alternatives to support their research needs.

This workshop will be conducted via Zoom. After registration, you will receive the link and password via email. This session will be recorded.

Cancellation policy: The workshop may be canceled due to low enrollment on the day of the planned event.  Slides and any previous recordings will be shared via email with anyone registered for the event.

This program is open to all eligible individuals. The USC Libraries operates all of its programs and activities consistent with the University’s Notice of Non-Discrimination. Eligibility is not determined based on race, sex, ethnicity, sexual orientation or any other prohibited factor.
