Recognizing Plagiarism and How to Avoid It In-Person
Did you know you can cite a source and still plagiarize? Recognizing plagiarism is not always easy. Sometimes plagiarism happens because we rely too much on quoting someone’s work, we forget to acknowledge someone else’s ideas, we are not familiar with a citation style, or we don’t take notes to distinguish our words from someone else’s. This workshop will clarify plagiarism, look at USC’s policy on academic integrity, identify various types of plagiarism and strategies to prevent it. Avoiding plagiarism is important to effectively join the scholarly conversation, building on existing research, and incorporate our own ideas.
Learning Outcomes:
-
Define plagiarism and academic integrity
-
Identify types of plagiarism
-
Develop strategies for avoiding plagiarism and effectively paraphrasing someone else’s ideas
This workshop will be conducted via Zoom. After registration, you will receive the link and password via email 3 hours before the workshop. This session will be recorded.
